STEP 3 was designed to provide participants with practical skills in active learning pedagogy in English in preparation for STEP 6: Teaching and Directed Study at overseas universities. The program consisted of three sessions: two lectures and one micro-teaching session.
In Session 1, participants explored strategies for checking students’ understanding during lessons, with a focus on creating a supportive classroom environment and applying formative assessment techniques.
In Session 2, participants learned practical approaches to active learning, including lesson design that integrates pre- and post-class activities, the use of reflection techniques such as the One-Minute Paper, and strategies for inclusive teaching. The session also addressed the potential and challenges of using AI in education.
In Session 3, participants conducted micro-teaching sessions, short teaching exercises designed to incorporate active learning. Through feedback from instructors and peer participants, they gained practical insights into improving their teaching.
The program provided a valuable opportunity for participants to build a foundation for their future participation in STEP 6.
